Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week), $26.80 per hour

About The Denise House:
The Denise House is a 33-bed shelter and Community Support Service for abused women, with or without children, located in Oshawa.
We are currently seeking to recruit a Cook/Food Service Worker for our shelter.

Position Summary: The food service worker is responsible for the daily preparation of dinner for residents of the shelter. The food service worker will ensure that all meals are prepared in accordance with healthy food guidelines and dietary needs of residents. The food service worker is responsible for all grocery purchases, food donation organization, pantry and kitchen management. The food service workers will keep a current and accurate inventory of required items keeping within the allotted budget.

Responsibilities and Duties
*Plan, prepare and cook meals & snacks for residents of the shelter
*Develop and implement weekly meal plans following Canadian Food Guide for healthy eating
*Demonstrated ability to provide meals and options that are inclusive and diverse to serve the needs of diverse residents
*Connect with new residents to understand the dietary needs and preferences of them and their families
*Receive special request information for dietary needs and adjust meal planning and groceries
*Responsible for grocery orders, shopping, tracking inventory and storage of items
*Maintain inventory of food donations and ensure proper rotation of food inventory, disposing of expired foods
*Responsible to stock kitchen and pantry
*Clean, sanitize & maintain kitchen, pantry, walk in fridge/freezer, food donation room
*Adhere to public health guidelines with food handling, storage, fridge temperatures, cooking requirements.
*Document and report any maintenance concerns or problems with kitchen equipment/appliances
*Oversee repairs and maintenance of kitchen, fridge/freezers and pantry.

Experience & Qualifications
*Food Safety Handling certificate & working knowledge of Canada Food Guide
*Experience with food preparation, menu planning, cooking for large groups
*Excellent time management and organizational skills
*First Aid & CPR Training, WHMIS, health & safety training an asset
*Some knowledge of gender-based violence
*Valid Driver's License
