SUMMARY OF POSITION:
To manage the crisis intervention counselling, support
and advocacy services in a residential program to women and children whose lives have been affected by woman abuse. This will include formal and informal supervision, training, and evaluation of residential staff and the programs they deliver, ensuring that services are delivered in a professional manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide formal and informal supervision to the residential staff so that program goals are
met.
2. Co-ordinate scheduling of residential counselling team including emergency coverage and time off requests.
3. Schedule and complete performance appraisals with all staff who are responsible to the
Residential Program Manager.
4. Participate in the hiring process of all staff in the residential program and provide training
to all new residential employees.
5. Ensure the appropriate notification to police and/or Children’s Aid as per joint high-risk
policy.
6. Assist in assessing professional development needs and the implementation of professional
development activities for residential staff and maintain a record of completed staff development
activities.
7. Maintain accurate, up to date recording of information on appropriate forms and files,
including personnel files.
8. Manage serious occurrence and incident reports submitted by staff.
9. Become familiar with and effectively document all required information in the WISH database
10. Facilitate the co-ordination of programs for women and children.
11. Facilitate weekly case management meetings with staff.
12. Oversee the completion of all residential client paperwork, including intake, discharge and
outside referrals.
13. Record and submit statistical information as required by the organization.
14. Liaise and advocate with community agencies to facilitate service to women and maintain
strong community partnerships.
15. Provide on-call support as per rotational schedule.
16. Assume the duties of a Residential Counsellor as required.
17. Work closely with Community Services Program Manager to ensure seamless service delivery.
18. Perform other related duties as authorized by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Completed Post Secondary Degree in Social Science and appropriate combination of training and experience in Personnel Management.
2. Ability to provide effective supervision.
3. Ability to effectively handle crisis situations both in person and by telephone.
4. Knowledge of and/or experience with local community social services, medical and justice
systems, and other relevant services.
5. Ability to perform within a survivor-centered organization which bases its services on a
feminist analysis of gender-based violence.
6. Ability to function independently and as part of an effective team both within the front-line
staff group and the organizational framework.
7. Ability to perform independently with minimal supervision.
8. Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
9. Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing. Ability to organize and present
information comprehensively to individuals and groups.
