POSITION SUMMARY:

Safe at Home (SAH) is a research pilot program that is lead by St. Michael’s Hospital-MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions. The findings from the pilot will inform a sustainable and permanent Safe at Home model in Hamilton. During the pilot, the Safe at Home Program Support Worker role will provide some case management support throughout a woman’s/individual’s time in the program. The role will also assist in training referral partners, leading targeted recruitment efforts, and supporting the implementation of a concurrent intervention pilot for individuals using violence (IUV).

Please note that this role involves direct work with individuals using violence (IUV), including providing support in both one-on-one and group settings as part of the concurrent intervention pilot.

This role requires knowledge of the legal aspects of tenancy, housing and gender-based violence, and understand the research component of developing and testing an intervention model that is unique to Hamilton. The SAH Program Support Worker will provide services through a trauma- and violence-informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lens to create a safe and supportive environment for women, as well as a learning and supportive environment for individuals using violence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Coordinate direct service and case management to women/individuals and their dependants including conducting screening for eligibility, ongoing risk assessments, safety planning, completing assessments and admissions, facilitating case management and arrangement of interpreters (if applicable)
•Guided by a newly formed psycho-educational curriculum for Individuals Using Violence, lead and facilitate group and/or 1:1 programming
•Work closely with Hamilton Police Services to ensure completion of Safety Audits for clients
•Lead targeted recruitment efforts through community training to increase referral numbers
•Work closely with the SAH Manager to coordinate services
•Provide information on resources to service users, and complete referrals as identified by program participants
•Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and case conference meetings
•Work safely, and identify and report any health and safety concerns, in accordance with Mission Services’ Workplace Health and Safety Policies
•Adhere to all MSH Policies & Procedures as well as Women’s Services Policies and Procedures
•Other duties that may be required to ensure the continuation of services

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Successful candidates will hold at minimum a degree or diploma in Social Work/Social Service Work/Assaulted Women and Children Counsellor and Advocate
•Experience with facilitating groups is an asset
Minimum three (3) years of work experience in the fields of gender-based violence, child abuse, mental health, concurrent disorders, counselling and other social services supporting vulnerable women; experience with community-based research is an asset
•Demonstrated understanding of gender-based violence, child abuse, mental health and addiction, poverty and homelessness
•Demonstrated understanding of working from intersectional gender-transformative and intersectional feminist lenses
•Demonstrated ability to provide person-centered, trauma and violence informed and anti-racist/anti-oppressive services and supports
•Confident leading training sessions and groups
•Excellent counselling, crisis intervention, organizational and interpersonal skills
•Ability to work under pressure and under crisis situations
•Confident decision maker and enthusiastic team player
•Committed to upholding the organizations’ Mission, Vision and Values

HOURS OF WORK:
•37.5 hours per week
•Primarily Monday-Friday with the possibility of working occasional evening and weekend hours dependent on program needs
