Women's Shelters Canada is looking for a self-starter with a background in tech safety or cybersecurity and an interest in supporting survivors of violence and gender-based violence shelters to strengthen their technological and digital safety. This role will support the creation of clear and engaging resources on tech safety and the coordination and delivery of tech safety trainings across the country.

Organizational Background
Women’s Shelters Canada (WSC) brings together 16 provincial and territorial shelter organizations and supports more than 600 shelters across the country for women, children, and gender-diverse people fleeing violence. WSC was created by the provincial and territorial shelter associations who identified a need for a unified voice on the issue of violence against women at the national/federal level. Together, we have become a national, collaborative voice for systemic change with the goal of ending violence against women, children, and gender-diverse people. Tech Safety Canada (TSC) is a program of Women's Shelters Canada. TSC equips shelter and transition house workers across the country with the training and tools they need to support women, children, and gender-diverse people with their experiences of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV). TSC builds on the work of the BC Society of Transition House's existing Technology Safety Project and works with other international tech safety projects in the US, UK, and Australia.

Overview of the Role
Are you passionate about tech safety and knowledge mobilization? Do you have strong communication skills and experience with content development? Are you interested in a role that will allow you to build your skills in a variety of areas while helping support the work of frontline staff in the domestic violence sector?

WSC is seeking a Tech Safety Canada Coordinator who will work closely with the Tech Safety Canada Manager to advance the work of Tech Safety Canada. The Coordinator helps to identify the needs of the sector and supports the development of tech safety resources and the delivery of tech safety trainings. Specifically, the Coordinator will work on projects such as developing tech safety materials and toolkits in response to emerging needs, coordination and delivery of tech safety trainings, strengthening shelter cybersecurity and digital safety practices, and a variety of other topics.

The role involves regular interaction with other members of WSC staff, shelter staff from across the country, representatives from the provincial/territorial shelter associations, and tech safety partners. The position is expected to work from an intersectional feminist framework to carry out the work of the organization and achieve the overall mission and strategic plan for the organization.

Responsibilities

Tech Safety Canada Responsibilities
• Identify the learning needs and gaps within the sector related to technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) by conducting and analyzing periodic needs assessments and surveys and staying up to date on emerging trends
• Conceptualize and write accessible, clear language resources on a variety of topics to support the sharing of tech safety knowledge within the shelter sector
• Coordinate tech safety trainings, including responding to training inquiries, training administration, adapting training materials, and supporting training delivery as needed
• Provide support to other tech safety activities such as Tech Safety Forums, webinars or meetings with partners, as needed
• Contribute to the overall vision, strategy, planning, and evaluation of WSC's Tech Safety Canada and Knowledge Exchange programs

Other Responsibilities
• Assist with the development of funding proposals related to Tech Safety
• Liaise and build relationships with the provincial/territorial shelter associations as well as with individual shelters and other stakeholders and partners
• Provide input to and participate in the implementation of WSC's collaborative work

Knowledge and Experience
• Post-secondary degree (college or university) or equivalent work experience in a relevant field (such as adult education, training, knowledge translation, cybersecurity, etc.)
• Experience and knowledge of cybersecurity and digital safety practices, particularly as it relates to gender-based violence
• Understanding of key tech issues for survivors of violence and for low-resource community organizations such as shelters (eg online safety, securing common devices such as phones or laptops, ransomware prevention, protecting sensitive survivor data, responding to data breaches, and safely integrating emerging technologies)
• Ability to communicate complex technical information to a diverse audience in a clear and accessible manner, both orally and in written form
• Strong writing skills across a variety of formats
• Experience conducting outreach and building relationships with a variety of partners
• Strong team player
• Experience working from an intersectional feminist approach

Location
Candidates may be based in Ottawa, where work is primarily completed through a hybrid work model, coming into the office 2-3 days per week. Or they may be fully remote within Canada.

Working Conditions
This position involves working at a computer for extended periods of time as well as virtual, telephone, and in-person meetings (dependent on public health restrictions). Some travel may be required.

Work Location:

Compensation and Duration:
The annual salary ranges from $62,377 to $64,579, depending on the candidate's experience. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package. It is a one-year, full-time contract with the possibility of renewal.
