Are you passionate about building safer communities by preventing human trafficking and sexual exploitation? Do you believe in the power of education to equip young people with the tools to stay safe, build healthy relationships, and recognize the signs of trafficking? We want you on our team.

The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region (SASC) is hiring a full-time Public Educator – Human Trafficking Prevention to deliver programming focused on educating youth and community members across Waterloo Region. The successful candidate will work with schools, youth-serving organizations, and at-risk communities to raise awareness about trafficking, challenge myths and stigma, and empower young people with knowledge and resources to prevent exploitation. This role is fully in-person and requires travel throughout the region, as well as flexibility for evening and weekend work based on programming needs.

We encourage applications from individuals who are Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, or from other equity-deserving communities.

About the Role

As part of SASC’s Public Education Program, the Human Trafficking Prevention Educator will:

  • Deliver engaging, activity-based, trauma-informed workshops in-person and virtually to youth, caregivers, and community members focused on human trafficking prevention, exploitation awareness, healthy relationships, and consent.
  • Facilitate education sessions for youth identified as at-risk, school staff, and community service providers, with a focus on prevention, early intervention, and equipping participants with tools to recognize and respond to trafficking.
  • Collaborate with the Anti-Human Trafficking Program
  • Collaborate with the Public Education and Communications team to develop accessible, interactive online training modules for staff and volunteers working with youth, ensuring they are equipped to support prevention efforts within their organizations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, youth-serving organizations, and other community partners across Waterloo Region to expand the reach and impact of trafficking prevention education.
  • Represent SASC at community events, outreach activities, and collaborative initiatives addressing trafficking and gender-based violence prevention.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of program materials, delivery methods, and evaluation processes to ensure programming is relevant, evidence-informed, and survivor-centered.
  • Maintain accurate records of workshops, community contacts, and program outcomes in alignment with funder and organizational requirements.
  • Commit to evening and occasional weekend work to meet the scheduling needs of schools, youth programs, and community groups.
  • Travel throughout Waterloo Region is required; access to a reliable vehicle is essential.

This position is part of our Public Education Program and works closely with other educators, our communications team, and a network of community partners.

You May Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Believe in the power of education to equip young people with tools to recognize unhealthy relationships, set boundaries, and stay safe.
  • Have strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups, including youth, caregivers, educators, and community members.
  • Demonstrate cultural humility and are committed to working with people from various backgrounds, including Black, Indigenous, racialized, newcomer, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Have lived experience or a deep understanding of the systemic barriers that increase vulnerability to trafficking and exploitation.
  • Are comfortable discussing topics such as exploitation, consent, gender-based violence, and social justice in a respectful, accessible, and trauma-informed way.
  • Are flexible, self-motivated, and able to work independently while contributing to a supportive, collaborative team environment.
  • Can work one evening per week and occasionally on weekends based on program needs.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Accessibility & Equity

We recognize that sexual violence disproportionately affects women, trans, and non-binary individuals. Further, we recognize that our work is conducted on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Anishnaabe and Chonnonton Peoples, specifically on the Haldimand Tract, which was granted to the Six Nations along the Grand River. This acknowledgment is crucial due to sexual violence, including human trafficking being rooted in oppressive systems such as sexism, racism and colonialism specially on Black, Indigenous, and racialized women, girls, and gender-diverse survivors.

We will provide accommodation at any stage of the hiring process on request. To discuss your needs confidentially, please contact us at jobs@sascwr.org or (226) 786-4023.
