POSITION SUMMARY:
As part of Mission Services’ Emergency Shelter Services team, the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Social Worker provides
intensive case management and one-on-one intervention services to individuals on probation or parole who have been
convicted of gender-based violence related and are at high risk of reoffending. Working in partnership with Probation
and Parole Services, the Social Worker engages regularly with participants to support accountability, facilitate behaviour
change, reduce the risk of future violence, and achieve program and participant goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide one-on-one intervention, and case management to offenders referred through Probation and Parole
Services.
• Develop participant-centered service plans focused on accountability, behaviour change, and risk reduction.
• Monitor client progress and maintain regular contact throughout the intervention period.
• Support individuals in addressing factors contributing to abusive, controlling, or violent behaviours.
• Collaborates closely with Probation and Parole Officers regarding participant engagement, progress, concerns,
and risk management strategies.
• Attend and successfully complete ACTV (Achieving Change Through Values-Based Behaviour) facilitator training.
• Co-facilitate ACTV group programming for high-risk gender-based violence offenders in partnership with trained
Probation and Parole staff and community facilitators.
• Participate in case consultations, case conferences, and multidisciplinary meetings as required.
• Facilitate referrals to community resources and supports, including counselling, housing, addictions services,
mental health services, and other relevant programs.
• Serve as a referral partner to Mission Services of Hamilton’s RESET Program and maintain records of referrals
accepted or declined.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough case documentation, including assessments, case notes, service plans,
referrals, reports, and statistical data.
• Collect and report program statistics and outcome measures as required by Mission Services and funders.
• Respond appropriately to crisis situations by assessing risk and implementing intervention strategies that
promote staff and community safety.
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality related to all participant information and records.
• Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and ongoing training related to gender
based violence, offender rehabilitation, and risk management
• Other duties as needed for successful program functioning
• Work safely and require safe work practices from all staff in the program; identify workplace hazards and
respond as required by Mission Services health and safety policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Successful candidates will hold at minimum a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
• Minimum two (2) years of experience providing counselling, case management, or intervention services in a
community, justice, or human services setting.
• Experience working with justice-involved individuals and/or those presenting complex needs, including violence,
mental health, substance use, and trauma.
• Experience working with domestic violence, intimate partner violence, or gender-based violence populations is
strongly preferred.
• Experience facilitating groups and delivering behaviour change programs is considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of gender-based violence, offender rehabilitation, risk assessment, and behaviour change
principles.
• Knowledge of community resources and services available within Hamilton and surrounding areas.
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Probation and Parole Services, community agencies, and
other stakeholders.

COMPENSATION:
• Hourly wage: $26.73
