Mattawa Women’s Resource Centre
The Mattawa Women’s Resource Centre (MWRC) is a not-for-profit, 10-bed women’s shelter located in Mattawa, Ontario. Predominantly funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, the Centre is dedicated to ending gender-based violence through comprehensive, survivor-centred programs and services that empower women, children, and youth to rebuild their lives with dignity, safety, and resilience.
MWRC is seeking a dynamic and committed Executive Director for a full-time, permanent position. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, management expertise, and a demonstrated commitment to supporting individuals impacted by gender-based violence.
Position Overview
Reporting to and accountable to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and operation of the Centre. The ED provides strategic and operational oversight of all programs and services using an intersectional feminist, anti-racist, and anti-oppression service delivery framework.
The Executive Director ensures high-quality, trauma- and survivor-centred services, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and strong relationships with funders, community partners, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Board Relations
- Support the Board of Directors and its committees in fulfilling governance responsibilities.
- Ensure the Board addresses all matters related to its mandate as defined in the Centre’s bylaws.
- Prepare reports and materials to support informed decision-making.
Leadership and Operations
- Provide overall leadership and direction for all Centre programs, including but not limited to:
- Emergency shelter services
- Community-based counselling
- Transitional and housing support programs
- Children who witness violence counselling
- Public education and outreach
- 24-hour crisis hotline
- Volunteer program
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, survivor-centred programs through effective monitoring, evaluation, and complaint management.
Financial and Administrative Management
- Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, and fiscal accountability.
- Prepare and submit funding proposals and reports.
- Maintain accurate program records, statistics, and files.
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Human Resources
- Provide leadership and supervision to staff, including recruitment, performance management, and professional development.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet program and operational needs.
- Facilitate team meetings, staff events, the Annual General Meeting, and other organizational events.
External Relations
- Maintain positive and collaborative relationships with funders, including provincial government representatives.
- Liaise with community partners, agencies, and stakeholders to strengthen service coordination and community impact.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in social services, administration, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in program management, staff supervision, and organizational administration.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
- Experience in crisis management and working in high-pressure environments.
- Strong budgeting and financial reporting skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with program evaluation and quality improvement.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Property or facilities management experience is considered an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to participate in required on-call responsibilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, and experience with Sage or similar accounting software.
- Prior leadership experience in a not-for-profit organization.
- French language skills are considered an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $65,000 – $75,000, commensurate with experience.
- Comprehensive group health benefits.
- Four (4) weeks of paid vacation.
