Women’s Resources is a dedicated organization providing emergency shelter and counselling services to women and children affected by abuse within the City of Kawartha Lakes. We are currently seeking a compassionate and driven individual to join our team as an Anti-Human Trafficking Advocate.

This is a full-time, contract position, with the possibility of extension pending funding renewal. The successful candidate will play an essential role in providing individualized support and direct services to survivors of human trafficking as they work toward independence. In addition, this position is responsible for supporting clients within the Community Services Team and delivering educational outreach to community partners. To succeed in this role, you will bring professionalism, work collaboratively with AHT and shelter staff, and build strong alliances with external agencies and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one, trauma-informed and client-centered support to survivors of human trafficking via informal counselling, applying harm reduction principles and supporting clients in setting their own goals.
  • Facilitate intakes, on a rotational basis, to assess risk and provide referrals
  • Develop and implement individualized safety plans tailored to each client’s unique needs.
  • Advocate for survivors with external agencies and service providers, ensuring access to housing, education, health care, and community resources.
  • Support clients in obtaining safe and appropriate short- and long-term housing, as well as education and employment opportunities when they are ready to do so.
  • Facilitate access to resources, referrals, and services, and liaise with community organizations and hubs to strengthen collaborative responses to trafficking.
  • Deliver education and awareness sessions to community collaborators to enhance understanding of human trafficking and available supports.
  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring a collaborative, coordinated approach to client care.
  • Maintain professional records, service user files, reports, and statistics in a timely and confidential manner.
  • Contribute to organizational development through participation in policy updates, team meetings, training, and supervision.
  • Represent the program in the community through outreach, networking, and public education initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Services (or related field) required or lived experience with human trafficking
  • 3–5 years of experience in women’s services, street outreach, or mental health/addictions
  • Comprehensive understanding of trauma-informed care and human trafficking
  • Strong counselling, crisis intervention and advocacy skills
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach to support
  • Proven ability to build trust with vulnerable populations
  • Excellent knowledge of local community resources, agencies and relevant supports
  • Self-directed critical thinker with strong initiative; able to work independently while contributing to a trauma-informed team environment
  • Strong written, verbal, and computer literacy skills
  • Confident public speaker for education and awareness presentations
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle required
