Position Title: Counsellor
Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

About Us
Design for a New Tomorrow (DFNT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals impacted
by Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and gender-based violence. Rooted in trauma-informed, anti-oppressive,
and empowerment-based approaches, DFNT provides counselling, therapeutic group programs, and
prevention education designed to foster healing, resilience, and personal growth.
Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Counsellor to join our team. The successful candidate will provide
trauma-informed counselling to individuals impacted by IPV and related trauma, facilitate therapeutic and
psychoeducational group sessions, and contribute to ongoing program development and community
engagement. This role involves travel between program sites in Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, and St. Catharines.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counselling and support using trauma-informed, strengths-based, and
    empowerment-focused approaches.
  • Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational group sessions.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client documentation and scheduling.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, when appropriate, to ensure clients are receiving all
    available supports.
  • Participate in program development, evaluation, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Support prevention and education initiatives through presentations and outreach as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Registered and in good standing with a recognized professional college or regulatory body (e.g.,
    OCSWSSW, CRPO).
  • Minimum 2 years of counselling experience (post-placement), preferably supporting individuals
    impacted by IPV, gender-based violence, or trauma.
  •  Experience facilitating therapeutic groups or psychoeducational workshops.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and gender-responsive practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to deliver presentations or educational sessions to small groups or community partners.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (required for travel between sites).
  • Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (required prior to start date).
  • Commitment to supporting individuals in their healing and empowerment journeys.

Additional Details
Location: Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, and St. Catharines
Salary: $27.80/hour during 6-month probationary period; $29.03/hour thereafter, with benefits
