About Luke’s Place:

Luke’s Place Support & Resource Centre for Women & Children is an award-winning non-profit centre of excellence in family law support for women who have been subjected to intimate partner abuse. We are devoted to improving the safety and experience of women and their children as they proceed through the complex family court system. As an organization, we provide direct services to hundreds of women and their children across Ontario every year and share our expertise with thousands of service providers through training programs, resources, tools, research, and mentoring.

Description:

The Board of Directors is a governance-structured board, reflected within its functionality and is responsible for providing governance and strategic direction to the organization.

The ideal candidate will have a feminist, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive analysis and understanding of violence against women and will help the Board achieve its goals through their progressive leadership experience.

Qualifications:
• Support the mission and values of Luke’s Place
• Understand violence against women, within a feminist theory context, especially as it relates to family law issues
• Have board governance skills and expertise, including strategic planning, strategic leadership and risk management
• Interest in growing in a leadership position on the Board, i.e. Officer position
• Have commitment and skills to implement diversity, equity and inclusion frameworks at the governance level
• Are representative of the diversity of the Ontario communities we serve
• Representation from Durham Region as well as from across the major regions of the Province

 Commitment:
• Participation in, and contribution to, the organization’s strategic direction and planning, governance oversight and financial well-being to support the organization in achieving its goals
• Advocate and engage as a public representative of Luke’s Place
• Prepare for, and participate in 5 virtual Board meetings and 1 – 2 in-person strategic, planning and/or professional development sessions per year
• General monthly time commitment of 5-7 hours
• Active virtual participation on at least one committee (included in the time commitment listed)
• Minimum 2-year term with an option to renew
