CFSD is a non-profit, charitable organization. The mission of CFSD is to provide help, hope and healing to individuals, couples, and families, including young or vulnerable parents, and those with experiences of gender based violence, regardless of beliefs. We do this through evidence based counselling and psychotherapy, education and support.
Since 1981, CFSD has been helping people in the Durham region, from all religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, to deal with a variety of issues including trauma, gender-based violence, couple and family conflict and mild to moderate mental health issues like anxiety and depression. CFSD is also a bilingual organization, and endeavours to employ bilingual staff.
Opportunity
CFSD's Renewal Psychotherapy Division is currently seeking a Social Worker/Psychotherapist for a full time contract position (maximum of 14 months), starting as soon as possible, ending June 30, 2027. This individual will report to the Clinical Manager and will be responsible for providing individual, couple, family and group therapy. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for referring clients to other community agencies and professionals to increase the support and services needed by the client.
The primary duties required for this position include, but are not limited to:
• Provide intake assessment, consultation, analyze and assess the needs of clients to determine individual case plans and appropriate therapy
• Formulate and implement treatment plans utilizing applicable recourses and establishing suitable timeframes for achievement of goals
• Evaluate the treatment of services by seeking feedback from clients to determine overall effectiveness and recommend appropriate alterations to ensure optimal outcomes
• Facilitate or co-facilitate group programs
• Manage and meet targets for clinical caseload and maintain direct service requirements (60% direct client support).
• Participate in clinical program development and implementation
• Participate in single session screening and therapy for intake clients
• Manage administrative duties, including client statistical reporting systems as per funding requirements
• Maintain confidential clinical records of treatment contacts and assessment information for report management purposes utilizing tact and discretion at all times
• Complete timely assessments for agency group programs and submit paperwork to appropriate staff personnel
• Positively and professionally represent the agency in the community by collaborating with community partners on various projects and initiatives as assigned
• Supervision of student if required
• Work two evenings per week
• Meet with clients in the office environment at least 3 days per week
• Some travel to satellite offices, meetings, conferences and seminars
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
• A Master’s degree in Social Work or a related discipline
• Maintenance of RSW or RP qualification is a requirement
• Master’s level counseling experience is required
• Bilingual therapy skills an asset
• Commitment to the integrity and worth of all individuals which is consistently reflected in practice
• Ability to work independently and as a team member in a highly collaborative team environment
• Knowledge and experience in individual, group and family therapy methods
• Ability to lead discussions
• Knowledge of human development, attachment theory, family systems theory, feminist theory, family dynamics, group dynamics and learning theory.
• Knowledge and experience with trauma therapy and a sound understanding of Intimate Partner Violence is an asset.
• Knowledge and experience with crisis intervention techniques
• Knowledge and experience in working from a strengths based perspective
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and database
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record check
