WITT Supervisor

The Women in Trades and Technology (WITT) Supervisor will operate in the newly set-up WITT program to support the development of our trades and technology program expansion.  The goal of the program is to foster labour market connection for women, Two-Spirit and gender diverse individuals facing barriers to employment. The program is a full circle program providing training in the HVAC, trades, and technology sectors, supportive employment opportunities, case management and wraparound supports that will help survivors build stable and economically independent lives free from abuse, homelessness, and poverty. This position reports to the Director, Programs and Client Services. The WITT Supervisor will also provide frontline case management, counselling, and other service delivery to the WITT program participants.

Performance Requirements

Planning and Development

    • Recommends program changes necessary to continue meeting the needs of all program participants while ensuring program effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Ensures all program protocols are revised in keeping with changes in service delivery model(s).
    • Ensures client database reflects required data elements for clients and staff and meets goals and objectives.
    • Ensures appropriate collection of data for the purposes of planning- including programs and services, evaluation, budget, human resources, facility and reporting to stakeholders.
    • Participates actively in providing program leadership, support and input.
    • Participates in organizational planning initiatives and special projects.
    • Supports in the planning of Advisory Committee meetings, graduations, celebrations, and special events related to the WITT, CSO department, and agency-organized events.
    • Prepares reports as required, collects data and ensure up to date and timely tracking of services and client case notes.

Service Delivery

    • Supervises the Caseworkers' responsibilities for WITT delivery and activities.
    • When Coordinators/Caseworkers are away, will stand in for their roles to provide direct, frontline service delivery to clients to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the WITT projects/ program.
    • Delivers services and programs in accordance with legislative and regulative requirements, the organization’s anti-racism and anti-oppression framework, Board/operations' policies, and other best practices.
    • Delivers systems and protocols to ensure effective service delivery and consistency in meeting client needs.
    • Conducts research related to the tech and trades sector to support with program development.
    • Builds positive, respectful, and non-judgmental relationships with survivors of gender-based violence (women and their children) and their support systems.
    • Provides one-on-one client support, case management and counselling as part of weekly operational deliverables and acts as an advocate with emphasis placed on developing appropriate resources and connections to community supports and services.
    • Liaises with service providers and other community organizations to coordinate client appointments.
    • Monitors and reviews service and program activities to ensure goals and objectives are being met.
    • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation to clients who are in emotional distress through iDetermine.ca or through coverage of in person programs and service delivery during holidays and weekdays.
    • Creates and distributes reports to management and staff for information and action.

Workshop Facilitation & Case Management

    • Teaches digital literacy skills and workshops to clients, including, but not limited to navigating the computer screen, Zoom, Google G Suites, and Intro to Tech Careers workshops, among others.
    • Designs, organizes and facilitates workshops and group sessions on various topics to address the challenges/needs of women and youth and keeping with the program plan and their employment goals.
    • Provides wraparound support and case management to participants in the program to support with priorities and needs outside of their training and employment (e.g., referrals to housing, community services, etc.)
    • Creates and provides information and resources to individuals and groups within the community through public speaking, workshops, and community engagement activities to provide awareness and to recruit new participants for each program cycle.
    • Creates and schedules programs in consultation with managers for the duration of the program cycle and supports in marketing and promoting WITT programs to schools and diverse community groups.
    • Ensures completion of administrative responsibilities required for the program and to support participants, including, but not limited to, registration into required training programs, driver’s education, exams, etc.
    • Supports in the recruitment and intake process in selection of participants to the programs.
    • Provide support to women and youth in establishing safe and healthy environments.
    • Provides follow-up information and referrals to clients as required.
    • Creates new resources, templates, workshops, and detailed curriculum for the WITT program as required.
    • Ensures that the administrative responsibilities for the program participants are met in a timely manner.

Staff and Support Management

    • Provides monitoring, measurement, and evaluation of performance against objectives/plans and provides feedback.
    • Guides and develops a high-performance staff team through weekly or bi-weekly team check in meetings.
    • Ensures team skills and assets are utilized effectively, including maintaining a well-trained, supported, professional and an optimally performing team.
    • Promotes and maintains good communication between management and staff, among staff, students, and volunteers by consultative and collaborative teamwork.
    • Supports in the recruitment, coordination and scheduling of volunteers, placement students, and staff to ensure adequate coverage for all Community Outreach programs.
    • Acts as an Assistant to the Director, Programs and Client Services, when needed.

Budgeting

  • Supports in the preparation of WITT annual budget.
  • Approves and monitors program expenditures to ensure they are within annual budget allocations, with the Director, Programs & Client Services input and approval
  • Ensures completion of time sheets for payroll purposes and the maintenance of statistics regarding benefits for direct reports.
  • Coordinates purchases for WITT and other programs with Finance in a timely manner.

Communication

    • Helps to ensure all WITT programs and projects have communications/promotional material that is in line with agency branding, is up to date, and acknowledges funding sources.
    • Reviews all communications materials related to WITT programs and projects and revises as needed.
    • Conducts research to develop new communications materials.
    • Shares information with Community Outreach team.
    • In Liaison with Human Resources
    • Ensures implementation of The Redwood and HR policies and guidelines.
    • Participates in the recruitment and selection of permanent, contract and relief staff.
    • Advises Human Resources when the level of appropriately skilled staff, volunteers and placement students is not adequate to meet service and program requirements.
    • Assists in development of orientation programs and packages for new staff, placement students and volunteers in WITT.
    • Ensures new staff and students understand performance criteria and objectives for the probationary period and conduct probationary meetings when timely.
    • Develops and facilitates training for staff to ensure consistency of approach and acceptable levels of performance, including adherence to all governance, administrative and operational policies and procedures of the organization.
    • Ensures relevant information is provided to Human Resources for staff and student files.
    • Ensures health and safety of clients and staff through implementation and monitoring of policies and systems.

General

    • Adheres to all policies, procedures, guidelines, routines and requirements of The Redwood.
    • Maintains cooperative work relationships and participates in the general operation of the organization.
    • Will be assigned other responsibilities, within reason, as determined by the Director, Programs and Client Services.
    • Contributes to team building at The Redwood by attending and participating in meetings/events.

Successful Candidate Requirements

    • University degree in social sciences, social work or public administration or equivalent experience
    • CPR certification
    • CPI certification
    • Minimum one years' experience in a supervisory/ management role in a not-for-profit agency with responsibility for:
      • HR performance management
      • Staff supervision
      • Case management, counseling, crisis intervention and advocacy work, prefereably within the VAW/GBV sector
      • Implementation of staff and program schedules
    • Experience working with vulnerable populations; prior experience working with female survivors of gender-based violence, including those who may be human trafficking victims and/or survivors or those who have experienced sexual violence.
    • Knowledge of adult education principles, with experience teaching adult learners.
    • Strong knowledge of computer literacy and computer programming, including, but not limited to MS Office Suites (Word, PPT, Excel), Zoom and other online conferencing platforms, computer safety, among others.
    • Understanding of the skilled trades and technology sector in Canada, and labour market trends in technology, including union requirements, college and educational system.
    • Minimum one year of experience building relationships and partnerships with community stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated experience in project coordination, supporting with the planning and delivery of a new project/program, utilizing strong organizational skills and initiative to meet program deliverables.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven leadership skills and strong knowledge of community resources.
    • Detail-oriented and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, plan, and implement projects and initiatives.
    • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
    • Solid understanding of working within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework with diverse communities and works from a harm reduction framework.
    • Knowledge of preparing and analysing department budgets.
    • Ability to identify staff development needs and plan appropriate training and other activities to resolve gaps.

Working Conditions: 

    • Works extensively at a desk using a computer up to 8 hours in a working day. 
    • Works in a standard shared office environment.
    • This position will involve some local travel within the community, along with picking up equipment and materials. Must have ability to lift 20 lbs.  
    • Report in-person at The Redwood office.
