The Part Time Childcare Worker is responsible for Responsible for the implementation of the Early Childhood Education Program in accordance with the goals of the Bergamot and YWCA Toronto.

ABOUT YWCA BERGAMOT EARLY LEARNING CENTRE
YWCA Bergamot is a 68 unit apartment building with an Early Learning Centre in North Etobicoke for single women and women-led families in need of permanent, affordable, supportive housing. The Bergamot ELC is a centre of excellence for early childhood development and licensed for 62 children ages 0 to 4. YWCA Bergamot demonstrates YWCA Toronto’s commitment to creating quality, affordable housing in which women and their children realize their dreams and move forward in their lives.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES


  • Supports programs with the Early Learning Centre in accordance with the philosophy and Program Statement of Bergamot ELC, YWCA Toronto and the Ministry of Education Child Care and Early Years Act, (CCEYA);
  • Follows age-appropriate daily routines for the children in accordance with the philosophy and Program Statement of the Early Learning Centre;
  • Works as part of a team to enhance the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children;
  • Supports the implementation of a program geared to the needs of the children with concerns for their interest, special needs, strengths and pace of learning;
  • Works with the children in a group while maintaining sensibility to each child’s individual needs;
  • Communicates with parents on a daily basis information concerning their children;
  • Ensures that the Health and Safety Guidelines are followed in accordance with the policies and procedures of the funders, Bergamot and the YWCA;
  • Ensures appropriate notification of child abuse as required by the Child and Family Services Act;
  • Advises the Manager of any incidents and issues of concern in the program and completes required documentation;
  • Completes daily playground checks both morning and afternoon;
  • Set the stage in the program in accordance to the Planned Gross motor Program Plan;
  • Covers ratio within programs as per CCEYA Ministry of Education regulations.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • An Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate or recognized equivalent required (Case for Equivalency will be considered);
  • Early Childhood Education diploma an asset;
  • 1-3 years’ experience with children ages 0 to 4;
  • Standard First Aid and Infant Child CPR (Level C);
  • Skills and flexibility to work with various age groupings from 0 to 4 years;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, theory and practice an asset;
  • Experience working within a multicultural environment;
  • Second language an asset.
