SHELTER COOK – CROSSROADS SHELTER

Permanent Part-Time (30 hrs/week)

OFFICE LOCATION:                Crossroads Shelter, Peterborough ON

START DATE:                          ASAP

WAGE RANGE:                        $17.23 - $18.38 per hour

HOURS:                                     30 hours/week (Monday to Friday- flexible schedule)

 

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:

The Shelter Cook oversees the functions of the kitchen and food services, as well as performs duties related to security, maintenance, and cleaning on an as needed basis.  The Shelter Cook interacts with clients, staff, volunteers, students, visitors, contractors, and the community.  The Shelter Cook observes safe working and operating practices in carrying out the required duties.  The Shelter Cook demonstrates a commitment to the provision of excellent client services and contributes to a respectful and productive work environment.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Food preparation experience
  • Knowledge of nutrition and all relevant health and safety legislation
  • Sensitivity of issues related to family violence
  • Ensure that work performance and behavior is compliant with the Occupational Health
  • and Safety Act
  • Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with team members, clients and visitors
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Superior organizational skills and self-motivated
  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification
  • High attention to detail with ability to multi-task
  • Able to work independently
  • Ability to adhere to professional standards in all facets of shelter work; with clients, with co-workers, and with the public.
  • Commitment to create a healthy workplace environment for clients and co-workers.
  • Ability to incorporate training and professional development into day-to-day work.
