You are an exceptional individual who enjoys working with children and youth and can engage with them by organizing fun activities. Your background and passion for children, youth and social work shows a commitment to delivering appealing programming that enhances the existing program model. You are a passionate individual who is looking to gain additional experience working in the children and youth, as well as violence against women sector in a fast-paced, complex, residential environment.


The Residential Child and Youth Worker Summer Student is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of programs for children and youth who are staying at the shelter. This position is intended to enhance the existing child and youth program by offering more children’s activities to children and youth.   The Residential Child and Youth Worker Summer Student will demonstrate a commitment to the provision of excellent client services and contribute to a respectful, productive work environment at Cornerstone.

The Residential Child & Youth Worker – Summer Student is directly supervised by the Manager of Residential Services.

  • Between the ages of 15-30 as of June 24, 2019
  • Knowledge of the effects of domestic violence including the impacts of domestic violence on children and youth
  • Familiarity with the links between violence, trauma, addictions and mental health issues
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Confident decision maker and enthusiastic team player
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of non-violent intervention and solid knowledge of healthy child development behavior management techniques
  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification preferred
