End Date:                    December 31, 2019 with possibility of extension

Hours of Work:            35 hours per week, flexible schedule, evenings/weekends included

Salary:                         $23.30 - $24.37 per hour

You are an exceptional individual with an understanding of the current affordable housing needs within Northumberland County.  Your background and passion for working with the vulnerable

shows a consistent track record of delivering professional casework, counseling, advocacy and referrals to clients in a confidential manner.  



Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Community Services, the Family Housing Resource Worker is responsible for delivering housing support services to families within Northumberland County who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless.  The Family Housing Resource Worker provides a comprehensive range of services to clients in the shelter, within the community and during the transition period from temporary lodging or shelter into more permanent housing.  The Family Housing Resource Worker demonstrates a commitment to the provision of excellent client services and contributes to a respectful and productive work environment.

The Family Housing Resource Worker is directly supervised by the Manager of Community Services.

  • Relevant degree or diploma
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience preferred 
  • Comprehensive understanding of issues related to family violence, including a strong understanding of the links between violence, trauma, addictions and mental health, and homelessness 
  • A clear understanding of group dynamics
  • Knowledge of the follow frameworks:
    • Motivational Interviewing,
    • The Comprehensive Continuous Integrated Systems of Care model of service provision
    • Harm Reduction
    • Family and Intimate Partner Violence within a gendered lens,
    • Trauma informed, and
    • Housing First in relation to Violence Against Women
  • Proven ability to respond to complex needs of clients and comprehensive intervention strategies
  • Strong crisis intervention skills
  • Relevant knowledge of local community and social services
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation
