Guidelines for Recommending Resources for the OAITH Online Library

Below are some guidelines for what criteria we use to determine what is added to the OAITH online library. For the full resource guidelines document click here.

  1.  Resources support our goals of providing resources relevant to OAITH’s membership, partners, and other organizations who deliver services to women who have experienced violence and all those who work to end violence against women.
  2. Resources will contribute to broadening understanding of the realities of Ontario’s diverse population and will help to advance understanding of an intersectional feminist approach to responding to Violence Against Women.
  3. Resources can be:
  1. Reports from governmental, non-governmental and research organizations that give deeper or new understandings of particular issues, impact of legislation or policies, research and case studies.
  2. Tools, manuals, and other practical resources that give direction on ways to apply theoretical and conceptual understanding to everyday practice.
  3. System navigation tools and strategies.
  4. Advocacy documents, such as submissions to government or campaigning materials that support understanding of issues in new ways and are in line with OAITH’s principles and policies.
  5. Statistics, fact sheets, and other information-based resources.
  6. Government publications that are relevant to the context of VAW work in Ontario.
  7. Policy development materials, including sample policies from different organizations that can support anti-racist /anti-oppression policy and procedure development for member and other organizations.
  1. Resources will meet one of the following needs:
  1. Documents that provide and/or analyse statistics, case studies, and incidents of Violence Against Women in Ontario.
  2. Studies, reports, and analyses of critical issues that intersect with women’s experiences of violence such as:
  • housing
  • poverty and economic security
  • racism and discrimination
  • policy and legal frameworks
  • intersectional analysis of women’s different identities
  1. Counselling techniques and strategies for working with all women who have experienced violence.
  1. Documents should be current, ideally within the last 1 – 5 years and continue to hold relevance for the intended audience(s). 
  2. We can only post content that is available freely or for which we have express permission from the copyright owner to include in our online Resource Centre.
