About Ontario Association of Interval & Transition Houses (OAITH)

The Ontario Association of Interval & Transition Houses is a coalition of first stage emergency women's shelters, 2nd stage housing organizations and community-based women organizations who work towards ending violence against all women. We achieve this through training, education, advocacy, public awareness and government relations. Our individual member organizations offer a range of supports, services and advocacy for women and their children fleeing violence:

  1. 24 Hour Support and Crisis Lines
  2. Safe Emergency Shelter
  3. Counselling Programs
  4. Referrals to Community Resources
  5. Transitional and Second Stage Housing Programs
  6. Legal Support and Advocacy with Family, Criminal Law and Immigration Law
  7. Children and Youth Programs
  8. Violence Prevention Programs
  9. Women's Community Outreach Support

Depending on the support a woman may be looking for, she can either access this from the community, or from within the shelter. Each of our Member Organizations offers programs that meet the needs of their individual community. For example, some of our Member's offer integrated domestic violence and sexual violence services, while others may have found ways to support and provide services to women and their pets. In Ontario, there are 96 emergency violence against women shelters partially funded through the Ministry of Community and Social Services. You can find a shelter that's closest to your community by going to: https://www.sheltersafe.ca/

We are not a direct service agency and we are unable to respond to crisis situations.  If you require the support of a shelter, crisis line or counselling please go to our Find Help page to get the support you may be looking for.
