Committees

Membership Committees:

There are currently two permanent Membership Committees working within OAITH that are comprised of women from member shelters.

Social Justice and Action/Anti-Racism Anti-Oppression Committee

The Social Justice and Action/Anti-Racism Anti-Oppression Committee (SJAC/ARAO) is responsible for social action on public policy issues affecting women and children who experience violence. The Committee is also responsible for ensuring the completion of activities within funded projects undertaken by OAITH in its public advocacy role.

Membership on the Committee is open to all women within OAITH who want to take action for justice and social change and who are committed to advancing and creating equitable anti-racist, anti-oppressive organizations and communities. Members of the Committee agree to uphold the principles, values, goals and objectives of the Association.

Members of the SJAC/ARAO participate, along with Board or other committee members, in government consultations, meetings with government or political staff or other public policy processes where OAITH is represented. The Committee is also responsible, along with the OAITH Coordinator, for developing reports, briefs and other documents that speak to public policy issues for women and children, and for coalition building and joint action with equity-seeking allies.

The SJAC/ARAO has provided training to shelters and regularly consults with members on current political and social issues of concern to women and children, and women’s services.

The SJAC/ARAO is guided by its Terms of Reference. The Chair(s) is a member of the Board of Directors and is accountable to report to the Board on Committee activities.

The current Chair of the Social Justice and Action/Anti-racism Anti-oppression Committee is Erin Lee-Todd. There is currently no Co-Chair for this committee.

Member Education and Training Committee (MET)

The Member Education and Training Committee is responsible for training of member shelters on issues identified by them. In collaboration with the Board and other committee members of the Association, the Committee plans a yearly training day to coincide with our Annual Meeting and seeks additional training opportunities for membership throughout the year.

Membership on the Committee is open to all women within OAITH who want to promote education and training for member shelters and who are committed to advancing and creating equitable anti-racist, anti-oppressive organizations and communities. Members of the Committee agree to uphold the principles, values, goals and objectives of the Association.

The MET Committee is responsible for ensuring the completion of activities within funded projects undertaken by OAITH in its training and education role.

Members of the MET Committee may also provide upon request anti-racism/anti-oppression practice training to OAITH members based on curriculum created by and for the Association and supports shelters to fulfill their commitment—made upon membership renewal—to an integrated anti-racist/anti-oppression perspective on VAW. The Committee also shares in development of resources available to the public and to OAITH members through our website.

The MET Committee is guided by its Terms of Reference. The Chair(s) is a member of the Board of Directors and is accountable to report to the Board on Committee activities.

The current Chair of the Member Education and Training Committee is Lee-Anne Lee. There is currently no Co-Chair for this committee.
